amber ling...life through my lens

This is my life . . . through my lens.

I am a physical therapist by profession, but a "photographer" by passion. I love to take photos. It calms and grounds me. When life gets chaotic, my camera balances me and reminds to me see things for their simple beauty.

Popcorn Pigeons

This picture is the result of some time consuming editing on my iPhone. The original shot was taken outside of Garrett’s Popcorn in Chicago. I used juxtaposer to isolate the pigeons (the time consuming part) and place them on a solid background. And (by chance) found a filter in the Pic Stitch app that made the photo look like an ink drawing.

Beautiful Vancouver and an even more beautiful November afternoon.  Taken from the Granville Bridge, looking north-west.  HDR editting done on my iPhone4.

Three - Vancouver, B.C., November 5, 2011

I love to photograph birds. Perhaps it’s because of how they can exist in urban settings. Even in the middle of a concrete jungle, they are a reminder of the nature and beauty that still lives outside of city limits.

Umbrellas - Vancouver, B.C., November 7, 2011

This always a common sight during my “annual” trip to Vancouver. I’m glad I now have an iPhone4 to takes pictures in the rain…much less of a hassle than using my Nikon. And, my SLR is not at risk of getting wet.

This was my favourite amusement park ride when I was a child. Unfortunately, I don’t have the stomach for it anymore, so I have to settle with taking a photo of the ride instead.

Men’s Pro Slalom (Kokanee Crankworx) - Whistler, B.C., July 16, 2011
I had the fortune of going to Whistler for the national physiotherapy congress.  During my visit there, the Kokanee Crankworx mountain bike competition was underway.
I don’t moutain bike, but I love live sporting events.  It comes from understanding the thrill of the adrenaline rush that is part of being a competitive athlete…it’s the feel of the your heart racing, the butterflies in the stomach, and cheer of the crowd.  It gets me every time.
